The importance of data on the computers of any organisation or individual can
hardly be overlooked. Almost everybody who works on computers has critical data
residing on it. This may be accounting data, correspondence, calculations,
payrolls, personal information varying from one user to the other but the
question of safety remains the same for all of them. It is the general
negligence/casual-not-so-serious attitude in this part of the computing world
that problems like virus, power surge, hardware failure cause much bigger
disasters than just a few thousand rupees. |
| A little thinking on data security would reveal that
while backup and reliability get the first priority, secrecy comes a very close
second followed by other factors like cost, ease-of-use etc. While a general
user can be termed too ignorant even the prudent users shy away because of the
complexity & huge cost involved in implementing modern data security
systems like disk-mirroring, fault-tolerant system, tape backup etc. |
